Date: October 12-17, 2008

Ecology Field Course is an annual BSc course, offered by the Division of Ecology & Biodiversity, HKU. It is a 5-day residential field course at Po Leung Kuk Pak Tam Chung Holiday Camp, including lectures and briefing sessions as well as providing students with an opportunity to visit a variety of habitats (i.e. Streams, rocky shores, sandy shores and shrubland) in Hong Kong, and to observe directly the main environmental factors that prevail in each of them and the scientific techniques.

This year postgraduates from XMU joined the course with the purpose of academic exchange. They were introduced to Hong Kong’s rich biodiversity in a variety of habitats, and became familiar with the common plants and animals occurring in various types of habitat in Hong Kong as well as the methods used to study such habitats. This academic exchange event also functioned as the first building block in further academic collaboration between XMU and HKU.

In the coming years, we hope to further enhance academic exchange and allow more undergraduate and postgraduate students from XMU and other universities to share knowledge and cultures with the HKU students in this course.
